남기찬의 영어 이름은 'SEAN'입니다

  

 

  우리 집 귀염둥이 남기찬은 초등학교에 입학하기 전 유치원 과정으로

미국식 영어유치원인 PSA(Pre-School Academy)를 2년간 다녔습니다.

마침 이 유치원은 개포동(서울 강남구 개포로 410)에 있어서 집에서 멀지 않고,

누나가 다닌 곳이며, 스쿨버스로 통학을 할 수 있어 퍽 다행이었습니다.  

PSA는 서울의 여러 곳에 있습니다.

이 유치원의 이해를 돕기 위하여 PSA 홈페이지의 내용을 아래 올립니다.

 

  Pre-School Academy is an English-speaking kindergarten program, owned and operated by YBM/Si-sa, a premier English education company in Korea, since 1996. We offer diverse educational opportunities for our students with great emphasis on our students to gain positive self-esteem, confidence, and problem-solving skills through our curriculum.

  Since the first PSA at Seocho opened in 1996, there are currently three other PSAs in the city of Seoul. PSA Kaepo in 1999, PSA Apgujeong in 2004, and PSA Yongsan opened in 2005. Also, Bundang PSA is scheduled to open in 2006. The PSA family is continuing to grow with plans to open other branches around the Seoul metropolitan area.

  Appletree Nursery is a branch of YBM Education PSA which was established in 1996 to offer a wide range of experiences that can be beneficial to our children. Appletree Nursery was developed because the critical years of learning are those years before the age of 5. We believe that great emphasis should be placed on bonding relationships, trust, language skills, nurturing and most importantly of all safety and well-being. Our program stimulates children creatively, intellectually, physically, and socially with a balance of free play, outdoor play (playground visits), and group activities, such as circle time, sing-alongs and storytime. We also provide plenty of informal hands-on learning experiences and enriching exposure to the alphabet, numbers, music, literature, art, and science. We hire qualified and experienced teachers who are the top in their field. By hiring only the most qualified and experienced teachers, we ensure that all your children's need will be met andexceed in a loving and happy environment. The quality of spoken language is determined by the quality of the language listened to and absorbed. At Appletree Nursery, we provide fluent English speaking Head Korean teachers in the classroom full-time supported by fully qualified foreign teachers.

  여섯 살 먹은 어린 것이 영어유치원에 다니면서 무얼 얼마나 배울 것인가 생각했는데, 가끔 스펠링테스트 용지를 가져오는 것을 보면 단어나 문장 작성에 있어서  ‘Perfect' 라는 평가를 받아오곤 하였습니다. 때로는 주제를 정하여 학생 앞에서 자기의 생각을 발표할 때는 자못 진지하였습니다. 물론 자료 준비의 대부분은 부모의 몫이기도 하지만. 이젠 어린 손자 앞에서 영어에 관한 한 할머니, 할아버지도 속수무책입니다.

  2014년 2월 26일은 2년의 과정을 마치고 남기찬이 졸업하는 날입니다. 그날 저는 수요낮예배에 이어 모이는 속회(Class Meeting)가 있어서 교회로 가고, 할머니가 찍은 졸업식 사진, 그리고 늦게 도착하여 졸업식날 가져온 자료와 집에 보관된 것들을 정리하여 훗날의 기록으로 남겨봅니다.
